The Jeep Gladiator is truly unique, being the combination of the rugged Jeep brand and pickup truck capability. It has a fixed bed, in addition to the ability to have its top removed and windshield lowered—just like a Wrangler. Now in its third year, the Gladiator offers customers the option of going with a diesel-powered V6 engine. The nine trim levels currently available on the 2021 Gladiator are the Sport, Willys Sport, Sport S, Willys, Overland, 80th Anniversary (which commemorates Jeep’s eight decades), Rubicon, Mojave, and High Altitude.
With the latest Gladiator, drivers get the famed Pentastar, which is a 3.6-liter V6 with an output of 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, on the 2021 Jeep Gladiator. There’s the option, however, of the previously mentioned 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6, which supplies 260 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. In addition, customers can swap the standard six-speed automatic transmission with an eight-speed automatic gearbox for smoother gear shifting. Each Gladiator model comes with four-wheel drive (4×4) for handling the most treacherous of trails. However, if you go with the all-terrain-optimized Rubicon, the type of 4×4 system you get is the Rock-Trac, which includes locking front and rear axles and an electronic sway bar disconnect. (The other trim levels get the Command-Trac system.) The Gladiator can tow up to 7,650 lbs.
Interior and Features
For infotainment, the 2021 Jeep Gladiator comes with an eight-speaker stereo system, two USB ports for hooking up mobile devices, Bluetooth hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, a trial subscription to SiriusXM Radio, and a 5-inch touchscreen. Upgrade to the Sport S replaces the 5-inch touchscreen with a larger, 7-inch one, and adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. Also introduced at the Sport S level are remote keyless entry for more convenient access to the cabin and automatic climate control. The 80th Anniversary edition upgrades the Gladiator with a navigation system, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, HD Radio, and a ninth-speaker system (instead of eight). Proximity keyless entry—which enables door unlocking by simply having the key fob on the person wishing to get access—is exclusive to the High Altitude.
Six airbags—two frontal airbags, two side impact airbags, and two side curtain airbags—are installed in the Gladiator cabin for restraint and cushioning during a crash. Also included is a rearview camera for guidance during parking maneuvers. Those who want more robust driver assistance should go with the top-tier High Altitude, which has exclusive blind-spot monitoring and rear parking sensors.
